South Dakota State Earns Academic Honors

MANHEIM, Pa. – The National Wrestling Coaches Association announced its Division I Top-30 All-Academic teams on Friday, with South Dakota State coming in at No. 23 on the list, with four Jackrabbits earning individual honors for their work in the classroom.

“We’re proud of the success on the mat the last few years, and just as proud of the success in the classroom, and this honor shows that all of the hard work is paying off,” head coach Chris Bono said. “I’m proud of the guys and thankful for all of the help we get across campus, and from the academic team here in the athletic department. It’s truly a team effort.”

One of only two teams in the Western Wrestling Conference to make the top-30, the Jackrabbit wrestling team posted a conference-best 3.090 team grade point average on the season.

Along with the team award, the NWCA also awarded 118 student-athletes on the All-Academic team, including four SDSU grapplers. A junior NCAA qualifier at 285 lbs. J.J. Everard earned the honor as a physical education/teacher education major, while NCAA qualifier at 197 lbs., Nate Rotert hit the mark as a redshirt freshman majoring in early childhood education.
