BOISE, Idaho—Boise State University won three of the last four matches including a major decision in the final to defeat North Dakota State University 19-18 in a non-conference dual at Bronco Gym on Friday, Jan. 15.
North Dakota State (0-4, 0-0 Big 12) is scheduled to face the University of Northern Colorado (1-2, 0-1 Big 12) at 3 p.m. Central Time on Sunday, Jan. 17 in Greeley. The Bears wrestled South Dakota State on Saturday.
The Broncos won three of the final four matches including Chris Castillo’s 16-5 major decision over Kyle Gliva at 157 pounds. Castillo jumped out to an early 6-2 lead in the first period and never looked back. Gliva falls to 14-8 on the season, 0-1 in duals.

Host Boise State (3-2) opened with a pair of wins as Taylor West posted a 5-2 decision over Grant Nehring at 165 pounds, while Austin Dewey defeated Blake Thompson 5-1.
North Dakota State tied the match at 6-6 on Hayden Zillmer’s pin at 5:50 over Keavon Buckley. The 7th-ranked Zillmer led 16-4 heading into the third period and built over four minutes of riding time. It was Zillmer’s sixth pin of the season as he improved to 22-3 overall and 4-0 in duals. He pushed his consecutive dual winning streak to 20 matches.
Boise State’s Harley DiLulo rallied for a 5-3 sudden victory-1 overtime decision over NDSU’s Logan Paxton. Paxton gained an escape tie to the match at 1-1 and recorded a takedown with 50-seconds left. However, DiLulo broke free for an escape and gained a penalty point with 6.1-seconds remaining to force overtime. DiLulo recorded a takedown with 7-seconds left in OT for the win.
North Dakota State bounced back with a pair of wins to tie and then take a 15-9 lead. Bison 285-pounder Ben Tynan rallied for a 7-3 decision over Gaylen Edmo. Tynan trailed 2-1 after one period, but kept the top position throughout the second to pick up 1:37 of riding time. Tynan opened with an escape 8-seconds into the third and recorded a pair of takedowns. Tynan broke a four-match losing streak to improve to 14-8 overall and 3-1 in duals.
NDSU’s 16th-ranked 125-pounder Josh Rodriguez gained an early takedown and then notched his sixth pin of the season at 2:39 over Boise State’s Rami Haddadin in the first period. Rodriguez is now 24-7 this season including 3-1 in duals.
Boise State won three of the next four. Josh Newburg defeated Nico Colunga 9-5 at 133 pounds, but North Dakota State’s 141 Tommy Walton battled back for a 5-3 decision over Jake Velarde. Walton trailed 2-1 after the first period, but maintained the top position for the entire second for 1:34 of riding time. Walton gained an early escape and then a takedown at the 1:30 mark of the third to put the Bison ahead 18-12.
Geo Martinez, Boise State’s 17th-ranked 149, came through with an 10-5 decision over NDSU’s Clay Ream to trim the lead to 18-15.
