When he coached at Apple Valley, Jim Jackson helped build a high school wrestling dynasty that has won 24 team state championships since 1983.
Jackson spent 32 seasons at Apple Valley as an assistant coach, co-head coach and head coach. Under his stewardship as head coach, the Eagles won 14 team state titles over a 15-year period and 56 individual championhips.
Jackson left Apple Valley after the 2011-12 season. After a year out of coaching, he spent one season at Eden Prairie High School as an associate head coach in 2013-14. Now the head coach at Shakopee High School, Jackson presides over a program that beat Apple Valley 29-28 earlier this season and holds the No. 1 ranking in the state. Apple Valley, which hadn’t lost a dual match since 2006, is ranked second.
These two powers are expected to meet Friday in the Section 2 championship match, with only the winner advancing to the Class 3A state tournament. The eight-team sectional tournament starts at 4 p.m. Friday at Rosemount High School. Continue reading at www.twincities.com
