Lucha Legend Silver King Passes Away, Wrestlers Pay Tribute

It has tragically just been reported that professional wrestler Silver King died last night. King, whose real name was Cesar Cuauhtemoc Gonzalez Barron, was a legend in the world of Lucha Libre, and he was also the son of fellow wrestling legend Dr. Wagner. He is perhaps most recognized for his brief run in WCW back in the day. He joined the Latino World Order with WWE Hall of Famer Eddie Guerrero during his time there. He also had a role in the film “Nacho Libre” wherein he played the role of the villainous wrestler Ramses. Silver King had plenty of memorable matches and moments over the course of his career, but the circumstances surrounding his untimely death last night are very unfortunate.

I can confirm now. I hate this.

According to Lucha Blog, King collapsed during a match with Juventud Guerrera. He tried to make the cover on Guerrera but never got back up, alarming some in the audience. After CPR failed to resuscitate Silver King, the rest of the event was cancelled. King apparently briefly tried to get up at one point but could not do it, leading to Guerrera struggling to escape the pinfall attempt. Silver King was rushed to the hospital and was eventually pronounced dead. Silver King was 51 years old at the time he died, and the cause of death has been since been reported as a stroke in the ring followed by a heart attack. Silver King had been in the wrestling business since the early 90s, and he had competed all over the world.

I’ve seen video of the Silver King health and it is frightening. He gives Guerrera a clothesline, goes on all fours to covers, Guerrera kicks out, and Silver King’s body just seems to shut down.

Guerrera and referee Black Terry stall waiting for Silver King to get up. He tries, but he can’t really do it. Juventud Guerrera kicked him gently in the side and Silver King just goes OUT. Guerrera struggles turning him over even for the pin.
