The Women of Mighty Meehan
Well now, after a 17:51 romp averaging 5:45 pace, it’s safe to say Sarah Healy has rounded into form. She’s now won the last two Pub outings, but will it be enough as she’s now three points behind Mighty Meehan runner-up and reigning Pub queen Mimi Fallon ÛÓ 240 to 243.
Back from a hip ailment and placing third, leading suds starlet Lara Johnson is still atop the leaderboard, barely, with 244 points. Kudos to Fallon who also went sub-6 in 18:26 after running the Ollie the day before.
Meredith Leenhouts pulled in a few strides before Marge Bellisle to hold a 3-point advantage for 4th over the Senior leader. With Fallon a Master in the top-5 Open category, things are looking good for second Master Carol Lahiff of the Somerville Road Runners to move into the numero uno 40+ position. Also, with marvelous Marge holding down 5th overall, Pub loyalist Sue Kenney is looking good for top 50+.
By staying healthy, CSU’s Catherine Farrell has a legitimate shot at moving from third to 1st as Patty Foltz is still injured and Joanne Morris ran her first race since an injury following Squantum. Morris and Farrell go into Paddy’s tied for 1st with 28 points.
All right, take care and gear up for Paddy’s, it should be a real hootenanny!
Women’s Standings
The Men of Mighty Meehan
Very interesting. HFC’s Brendan Lynch, Pub Series contender Chris Teague and leading Publican Joe Navas lit out at a 5:02 pace at Mighty Meehan, but only Navas held onto that pace to finish first in 15:39 over the flat and fast course (which Western Mass barrister Barry Auskern caught at 3.09 on his GPS. Spot on!).
Saucony ace Teague is now 7-points in arrears BUT Mr. Navas has designs on running the Bay State Marathon the same day as Paddys, BUT will be rushing to the starting line at Paddy’s. So Bay State starts at 8 am, Paddy’s at noon, Joe figures to run in the 2:30 range, jump in the trusty Saab for a 45-minute hike from Lowell to Newton, and thenÛ¢nobody, including Joe, knows how his legs will respond to that fast, first mile after putting 26.2 in the bank.
With Teague and defending champion Terry McNatt both Masters and looking to place among the top 5 Open runners, the 40+ beneficiary looks to be Macdara Nash, currently 7th overall and third among Masters.
Thristy Irish Runner Dave Wessman clipped Hurtin’ Fer Certain Strider Paul Corcoran by one spot in the Senior division, locking the pair in mortal combat with 28 points apiece as they head into Paddy’s. Of course Senior superstar and resident MD Ken Leinbach leads that division with 32 points despite missing a race.
Good to see Pub legend Paul Hammond back in the fray but he’s been gone so long nobody remembered to bring a Boom Box. Ah well, an Irish jig at Paddy’s is in the offing
