Amazon Cargo Plane Crash In Texas: Search Continues For Bodies

ANAHUAC, TX — A search continued Sunday for bodies after a Boeing 767 cargo plane nose-dived into Trinity Bay near Anahuac. The plane crashed Saturday afternoon and one body has been recovered so far. Search and recovery crews are searching for two more bodies.

The plane “went in nose first,” Sheriff Brian Hawthorne said. He said it was likely nobody survived. One person was found dead Saturday night near the small town’s waterfront the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office said on Facebook. The Atlas Air flight 3591 was operated by the online retail giant Amazon.

Searchers are also looking for the so-called “black box” flight recorder, which may provide some insight as to what caused the plane to fall out of the sky, The Associated Press reported.

Boat mechanic Jason Campbell, who helped search through the wreckage, told KHOU-TV they’ve been finding “pieces of bodies.”

“It’s obvious it’s human pieces but nothing bigger than you can hold in your hands,” he said.

The plane left from Miami and was likely close to landing at Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston. Witnesses said it nose-dived into the bay about 35 miles east of Houston.

Dave Clark, senior vice president of Worldwide Operations at Amazon, said: “Our thoughts and prayers are with the flight crew, their families and friends along with the entire team at Atlas Air during this terrible tragedy. We appreciate the first responders who worked urgently to provide support.”
