Greek MPs pass second austerity vote
Support means that Greece can receive international aid.
Greece’s parliament has passed the second piece of legislation necessary for the country to obtain further international funding.
The vote enables the implementation of a €28 billion austerity package, which was approved by MPs yesterday.
The move was welcomed in a joint statement issued by José Manuel Barroso, the president of the European Commission, and Herman Van Rompuy, the president of the European Council.
They said that it was the “decisive step” Greece needed to take in order to “return to a sustainable path”.

“In very difficult circumstances, it was another act of national responsibility,” they said.
Barroso and Van Rompuy confirmed that Greece had now fulfilled the conditions necessary for a decision on the disbursement of the next €12bn tranche of financial assistance from eurozone member states and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
It also means that a second bail-out, estimated to be about €120bn, will be forthcoming.
Eurozone finance ministers are due to discuss both issues at an emergency meeting in Brussels on Sunday night (3 July).
Barroso and Van Rompuy added: “We reiterate Europe’s unwavering support and solidarity for the Greek people, in whose future we are confident.
“In view of the hard work that still lies ahead, we repeat our call for all political parties to work together to take to their country forward.”
