Kerala: Couple fall in love in old-age home, get married

Thrissur, Kerala: An old-age home in Thrissur saw the wedding of two of its residents, who are well into their 60s and in love. State Minister VS Shivakumar was present at the event on Saturday.

###

Lakshmi Ammal fell in love with the man who once worked with her then husband. She met the now  67-year-old Kochaniyan Menon a few years ago while he was still in the employ of her late spouse. Years later she would meet him again, this time as a widow in an old-age home.

###

Kochaniyan, a native of Trissur’s Irinjalakuda, had been abandoned by his family, and was living in the Thrissur home Ammal moved into.

######

Soon the two developed a friendship that blossomed into love; they decided to get married.

###

The lovebirds shared their intention with other residents of the home, who happily organised a traditional but special ceremony. Henna, sangeet and other traditional rituals were performed by the friends.

###

When Kerala Agriculture Minister VS Shivakumar learned of their love story, he decided to join the celebration. District Collector S. Shanavas also attended the ceremony.

###

As the bride and groomed smiled and nodded, the sound of claps and laughter filled the old-age home.
