Fabinho on AS Monaco’s situation: “For years, each transfer window, they have become weaker.”

Speaking in an interview with L’Équipe, Brazilian midfielder and Liverpool man Fabinho commented on AS Monaco’s struggles in this Ligue 1 campaign.

“For years now, each window, Monaco have become weaker. We speak about a project that is trying to improve young players, but you need a solid base to surround them with. Monaco do not want to, or cannot, keep their best players, and that all finishes by making them pay for it. You cannot lose an unlimited amount of key players and continue to be in the top 3 or 4 places in the league. Jardim’s departure didn’t help either. I think that Monaco will succeed in saving themselves. The guys have a good mentality, some young players will become more important, but it hurts me to see Monaco in the situation.”

On comparing the Stade Louis II with Anfield:

It is a different world. At Monaco, I knew the faces and even the names of our biggest supporters. They came to training, they were present at the end of matches. We would chat, take photos together. Here, we are playing in a full stadium with an incredible atmosphere.

On winning the Premier League with Liverpool:

That is what we are dreaming of. We are well positioned, so we are thinking about it a bit. 4 points ahead is good, but it is not enough. I do not think that this defeat (to Manchester City) is going to affect our cycle. We are going to need to react, quickly, in order to not allow our rivals to believe.

On the players that have most impressed him at Liverpool:

I knew them with the Brazil national team but Firmino and Alisson have really impressed me. During the first training sessions with Alisson, he pulled off these fabulous saves and people would look at each other and go “who is this guy?”. Salah is also exceptional. He has an abnormal ability to score. Mané is an exceptional dribbler… I am going to stop there, otherwise I will mention the entire team (laughs). We really have a quality squad.
