Boy, 8, Killed While Riding Bike In Parsippany: Officials

PARSIPPANY, NJ — Officials said an 8-year-old boy died after being hit by an SUV on Tuesday evening in Parsippany.

The child is believed to have been on a bicycle when the driver of a 2022 Mazda CX5 struck him, according to the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office. First responders declared the boy dead at the scene.

Officials said the collision happened in the area of 189 Littleton Road, at around 5:34 p.m. on July 9; that address is for a residential complex.

The boy has not yet been identified, and authorities have released limited details on what exactly happened. The driver remained at the scene to talk to police, officials added.

Littleton Road was closed for a time between Smith and Parsippany Roads, according to township police. Paramedics from Parsippany-Troy Hills EMSand Saint Clare’s Denville also responded to the scene.

The Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, Morris County Sheriff’s Office, and township police will collaborate on an investigation into the crash.

Two other pedestrians have been killed in Parsippany this year, both in crashes along U.S. 46.

This is the fourth fatal crash in the township in 2024, and the 11th in Morris County, according to New Jersey State Police statistics and previous Patch reporting.
