STAFFORD, CT — This week’s Hidden Gem is tucked off East Street on a curve in Stafford, next to a pond, but one can practically smell the beef brisket smoking and the corned beef curing from anywhere nearby.
Welcome to the Millpond Country Store at 220 East St. in Stafford.
The store had an old-school feel to it and is a sure-thing with the locals and those working in the area for sandwiches and snacks that are made quickly, but certainly aren’t fast food.

The corned beef and brisket sandwiches are the specialties for morning, afternoon and evening, but there is a whole lot more on the menu.
Take, “The Thanksgiving,” for example. It’s turkey, stuffing and cranberry … yes on a sandwich.

The “Uncommon Italian” features peppered turkey, provolone cheese, lettuce and tomato smothered with Italian vinaigrette on a roll.
In typical Stafford fashion (there has to be at least one slightly off-the-wall offering), the menu features a peanut butter bacon burger.
