WATCH: Rock Greats, 'The Yardbirds' Come To Bay Shore

BAY SHORE, NY — The Yardbirds, a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, are heading to Bay Shore’s Boulton Center on May 22.

Original member Jim McCarty will be there to perform some of the group’s most memorable songs, including the signature tune “For Your Love.”

“It’s such a great repertoire to play,” McCarty told Patch. “The songs are well represented [and] well played.”

The Yardbirds formed more than 60 years ago, and during the 1960s, future legendary guitarists Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck all took turns with the band.

“We seemed to become popular very quickly,” McCarty recalled. “It was obvious we were going to be quite popular, but we didn’t know we were going to be this popular.”

McCarty knew his guitarists were special but “we didn’t know they would all be rock legends.”

They all brought a different style to the band.

“Eric was sort of a blues purest, very dedicated to what he did and conscious that he was going to be a star,” McCarty said. “Jeff didn’t really care. He just made the guitar sound incredible. He wasn’t bothered by what his image was.”

As for Jimmy Page, who went on to found Led Zeppelin, “He just worked it out,” McCarty said. “He wanted to know what we wanted and he planned out the solos. It was all very calculated, but very professional.”
