Middletown Democrats Say Campaign Sign Was Vandalized

MIDDLETOWN, NJ — The Middletown Democratic Party filed a police complaint Friday against a Middletown resident who they say admitted to vandalizing a campaign sign.

The Middletown Democratic Party did not give the name of the person accused of vandalizing the sign. They also did not say how the sign was vandalized.

The sign was located at the corner of Portland Rd. and Kings Highway. They said the admission was made via email to the Middletown Democratic candidate’s website. The sign was for Rocky Rios and Paige Gregorio, the two Democrats running this fall for seats on the Middletown Township Committee.

Committee reps Kim Kratz and Ryan Clarke, Republicans, are also running for re-election.

“The Middletown Democrats are committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that those who engage in such activities are held accountable,” said the local Democratic Party. “Campaigns are a fundamental component of our democratic process, allowing candidates to communicate their messages to the public and enabling residents to make informed decisions. It is unlawful for anyone to tamper with or remove campaign signs from properly designated areas. The destruction of campaign signs undermines the principles of free expression and democratic participation that are vital to our society.”
