Delhi Youths Try To Run Over Noida Traffic Cop Who Stopped Their SUV Jumping Signal, Arrested

Noida Police have arrested three youths, all natives of Delhi, for trying to run over a traffic cop on Tuesday.

“Those held have been identified as Harsh Lakra (25), Kavish Khanna (22) and Aryan Negi (22). The fourth person, Tarun Singh (24), who was with them in the car at the time of the incident is absconding,” a police spokesperson said.

The arrested men have been charged with attempt to murder, rash driving and hurting a public servant to prevent him from carrying out his duty.

Drunk, rash driving by accused

According to the Noida Police, the four men were drunk and were travelling in a Mahindra Thar. 

Constable Ayush was on traffic duty near the Charkha roundabout in Sector 126 police station area when the drunk men jumped the signal at the flyover around 9.25 pm.

When the constable signalled them to stop, they hit him with the SUV and fled the scene.

“Traffic policeman Ayush signalled the Thar to stop as other vehicles coming from the same direction were also stopped. However, the driver of the Thar hit the cop and fled the spot while the passengers hurled abuses at him,” the spokesperson said.

“A little later, the SUV returned to the spot and this time tried to run over the traffic police personnel before fleeing,” the official said.

Three arrested

The accused people were arrested on Wednesday after police traced their vehicle.

An FIR was lodged at the Sector 126 police station under Indian Penal Code sections 307 (attempt to murder), 327 (causing hurt to public servant to deter them from discharging duty), 337 (endangering human life due to rash act), 504 (insult to provoke breach of peace), among others, the police said.

Woman killed by speeding luxury car 

In another case of rash driving in Noida, a 24-year-old woman was killed on Sunday after a luxury car rammed her two-wheeler and flung her in the air for a few seconds before she landed on the road.

The woman, identified as Deepika Tripathi, worked as a receptionist and was the family’s sole breadwinner.

The speeding Jaguar XKR sports car worth over Rs 1 crore, with VIP number plate (0001), was driven by one Samuel Andrew Pyster, an American Express Bank employee.

Pyster, who hails from Faridabad, Haryana, was reportedly racing with another car when the accident happened. He had reportedly visited Noida with his friends to have breakfast at Starbucks. After the accident, he escaped the site leaving his car behind; however, he was arrested later.
