Driver Of Stolen SUV Crashes Into Parked Car, Building In Concord

CONCORD, NH — A man from Concord was taken to the hospital on Thursday after reportedly driving a stolen SUV into a parked car and a duplex on Rumford Street on Thursday.

Just before 8 p.m., a person on Rumford Street called the police reporting a possible two-vehicle accident where one of the vehicles crashed into a house. Dispatch told the officers heading to the crash fire and rescue teams were also on their way to the scene. After the first officer arrived, they requested backup.

The first officer reported two vehicles with damage, with a driver with head and neck injuries, according to scanner chatter. While at the scene, dispatch received another call, possibly from one of the owners of the vehicles.

The officer gave dispatch registration information for one of the vehicles, a silver Honda CR-V, which dispatch said was reported stolen from Jennings Drive a few minutes before. Dispatch also gave the name of a possible suspect in the stolen vehicle, and the officer said it appeared to be the same person and they would check a recent booking photo to confirm.

The officer gave dispatch the registration of the parked Honda Civic sedan with New York plates, and dispatch matched the vehicle to the caller. The dispatcher said the car’s owner also had a video of the incident.

“She’s not going to be happy with the damage,” the officer said.

Another officer was sent to Jennings Drive to take a statement from the SUV owner.

Later, officers confirmed the CR-V did crash into the house, causing damage to a wall — just missing the liquid natural gas hookup to the duplex. They also confirmed the driver’s name. Dispatch said he did not have a license.

The driver, who was in his 20s, had been arrested previously on burglary, theft, assault, domestic violence, criminal mischief, unlawful possession, and other charges, according to reports on Patch.

Concord fire and rescue teams took the driver to Concord Hospital. Officers followed and confirmed head and other injuries.

At around 8:30 p.m., firefighters were called back to the home for a report of gas in the building. After about 15 minutes, firefighters cleared the scene, finding no leak or other issues in the building.

Police expect the street to be closed until around 9:30 or 10 p.m.

Concord NH Patch is not publishing the suspect’s name but will after charges have officially been issued against him. We will update this story when more information becomes available.
