Flamengo in talks with Marseille over January move for Gerson

According to sources contacted by Get French Football News, we can confirm reports in Brazil that Flamengo are in talks with Marseille over a move in January which would see midfielder Gerson return to his former club.

At this juncture there has been very little detail over the terms and the nature of the agreement. However, GFFN also confirms that Marseille sporting director Pablo Longoria is desperate to see the Brazilian leave the club.

Globo Esporte reported earlier today that vice director of football Marcos Braz and the executive director Bruno Spindel of Flamengo have already contacted Longoria, who was reportedly open to dialogue. Both parties have also agreed, according to the Brazilian outlet, that Gerson will not feature in Igor Tudor’s squad for next Sunday’s match against Monaco.

Since the start of the 2022/23 season, the 25-year-old Brazilian has played just 523 minutes of football across all competitions. Igor Tudor, who became the manager of OM in the summer of 2022 after the departure of Jorge Sampaoli, has only handed the player eight league appearances so far.

Although Gerson has a contract with the French club until June 2026, his father (also an agent of the midfielder) has already hinted that the player could leave the club sooner rather than later.
