L’Équipe report today that part of the reason for Kylian Mbappé’s reported desire to leave Paris Saint-Germain, on top of his dissatisfaction with the club’s transfer business, was a delay in getting paid by the club.

News had broken on the eve of the club’s Champions League clash against Benfica in early October, first reported by Marca, that the the Frenchman was intent on leaving, just months into his new contract.
The forward had reportedly noticed that his September wages had not arrived in his bank account. Mbappé was initially surprised, and by October 11, when the news first filtered through, there was still no payment.
One or two days later, a part of his wages would be paid, but not the entirety. The player’s entourage would go on to ask PSG for answers, but were not satisfied by any of the explanations they were given. Some had pointed to an issue with accounts, others with FFP issues.
Mbappéś €70m gross salary is, in net terms, aligned with that of Lionel Messi and Neymar, who have never had any issues with getting paid.
The issue has ostensibly been resolved since, with Mbappé’s team now explaining that they will not comment for now. PSG’s press team have told L’Équipe that the 23-year-old has been paid all the wages and bonuses owed to him to date, adding that “like in all clubs, there are sometimes delays due to payment methods.”
