Barcelona interested in Morocco and Angers midfielder Azzedine Ounahi

L’Équipe are reporting that Barcelona are interested in Morocco and SCO Angers midfielder Azzedine Ounahi (22), one of the breakout players at the Qatar World Cup.

Angers are currently rock bottom of Ligue 1, and in an interview with RMC Sport, the club’s president Saïd Chabane has admitted that it will be difficult to keep the player should a club make an approach. Speaking about Ounahi and teammate Sofiane Boufal (29), Chabane said, “We can never keep a player that wants to leave.”

Ounahi’s rise has been stratospheric. The Casablanca-born midfielder was playing in France’s third tier, the N1 only 18 months ago with Avranches. After only one year in the N1, the Moroccan international made the move to Angers, where he is currently in his second season at the club. At international level, Ounahi is readying to face France in the World Cup semi-final following shock victories against Spain and Portugal.

His performances have caught the eye of Barcelona, who are looking to sign a player to back up, or potentially rival, Gavi and Pedri. According to L’Équipe, Barcelona could be tempted to make a move for the player during the January transfer window.
