Pakistan to launch electric rickshaws and motorcycles aiming to protect the environment

Dubai: Pakistan will soon introduce electric motorcycles and rikshaws in a bid to reduce carbon emissions in line with its ‘Green Pakistan’ campaign. Federal Minister for Science and Technology Chaudhry Fawad Hussain himself drove an electric motorcycle and a rikshaw during this visit to the Pakistan Council for Renewable Engergy Technologies (PCRET) on Saturday.

He told the media after showing off the newly developed electric motorcycle and a rickshaw that the government was planning to covert all motorcycles and rikshaws in the country. “Electric motorcycles and rickshaws are the future of the country’s transportation system,” he said, adding that the aim was to reduce carbon emissions. He said that these rides, which are the most popular means of transport in Pakistan, would run on chargeable batteries.

Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan launched the “green Pakistan’ campaign last year. Pakistan is now committed to combating climate change by introducing several measures, including planting 10 billion trees in five years, ban on single-use plastic bags, policy on electric vehicles, green buildings, proper waste management and clean drinking water.
