Backstage News on Who Made the Call to Remove the Roof From NXT Takeover WarGames Cage

As we noted yesterday, Triple H revealed on an NXT Takeover media call that the returning WarGames match, taking place at Takeover tomorrow night, will not have a roof over the cage. In past incarnations of the WarGames match, it always had a roof, but Triple H noted the WWE version will not, adding “Arn Anderson wasn’t doing moonsaults off the top of the cage”.

On the most recent edition of Wrestling Observer Live, host Bryan Alvarez noted there was back-and-forth in WWE over whether or not the WarGames cage would have a roof, with Triple H insisting that the cage have the roof, as has been done in the past. However, Vince McMahon was not in favor of the cage having a roof and made the final call to have it removed for the match.

Based on Triple H’s comments in the conference call yesterday, which you can listen to in full in the video player below, it seems as if WWE is removing the roof to allow for offensive moves to be performed from the cage top, and to give the bout what The Game feels will be a more “modern” feel.

The WarGames match tomorrow night will feature The Authors of Pain vs The Undisputed Era vs SAnitY, and ProWrestling.com will be providing complete, LIVE Takeover coverage beginning at 7:30pm EST!
