West Hartford Roadways Getting Major Facelifts

WEST HARTFORD, CT — While July is a month when many folks head off to summer vacation, in West Hartford it’s a month when road construction crews are sweltering in the sun to make roads better.

West Hartford Town Manager Rick Ledwith Tuesday updated the West Hartford Town Council on the town’s road projects, with resurfacing work slated for 10 different roadways.

He said work started July 9, with the impacted roads being: Belknap Road; Buena Vista Road (Gin Still Lane to Mountain Road); Everette Avenue; Flatbush Avenue (Quaker Lane South to New Park Avenue); Glenbrook Road; Golf Road; Sherwood Road; Vardon Road (Asylum Avenue to Kirkwood Road); Webster Hill Boulevard (Crestwood Road to Ledgewood Road); and West Ridge Drive (North Main Street to Hartwell Road).

Those projects, Ledwith said, take about two to three weeks to finish, with traffic flaggers helping motorists navigate the work sites.

In addition to road resurfacing, some West Hartford roadways have been reconstructed, with four busy streets either finished or about to get started.

Those projects, Ledwith said, have impacted or will impact: St. Augustine Street (half done); Highland Street (finished); Warwick Street from Trout Brook Drive to Robin Road (started July 8); and Pleasant Street (starting at end of July).

“Roadway reconstructions are more complicated than repaving and, therefore, take longer to complete, about one to two months,” Ledwith said in his town managers report.

“The work generally includes replacing the existing curb with a granite curb, replacing the existing driveway aprons with concrete aprons, selectively replacing the sidewalk and drainage structure, re-establishing the roadway base material, and paving.”
