“I had Nasser (Al-Khelaifi) who was calling me incessantly… but I spoke with my assistant and I said to him: “I do not think that this what I want for my career.” Obviously, when you sign for PSG, the differences financially compared to other clubs are so considerable that I often say: you should pay to become the PSG boss, not the opposite. You have won 0 titles in your career and you get that squad… All of the leagues are difficult to win, of course, but it is still a little bit easier here. You should be paying to go to PSG, because you can win titles here and then you can go where you like.”
“I called Nasser and said no to him, I did not have a very good conversation with Leonardo at the time. This is the first time that I make this public.”
“I was at Porto when I received the first call from Nasser, in my garage with my motorbike, I was changing accommodation. I knew Nasser because I spend a fair amount of time in Qatar. He calls me and he says: “André, how are you? We want you to start thinking about this (joining PSG). Leonardo will call you and you will agree a time about the next meeting.” So Leonardo calls me, but we did not have a good conversation. There was no feeling between us. I grabbed my phone and I said to Nasser: “I do not want to come. The conversation with Leonardo did not go well, I am good here, it is over.”
