Human Remains Found In Towamencin

TOWAMENCIN TOWNSHIP, PA — Human remains were discovered in Towamencin Township late Monday morning, police said Tuesday, and an active investigation is ongoing.

A surveyor doing contracting work near a water retention basin first spotted the human skull, police said.

The location was near the intersection of Welsh Road and Grist Mill Drive, near Orvilla Road, just before noon Monday.

Police said they quickly secured a wide perimeter around the area to ensure that nothing else was disturbed. As they continued their search, they then found additional human remains, along with clothing remnants.

Police said there were no initial indications of trauma or foul play on the remains. However, a cause of death is not yet known. The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office is working to determine both the cause and manner of death, as well as the identification of the individual.

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.

The Towamencin Police Department and Montgomery County Detectives are leading the investigation.
