2nd Annual 'Run For Ukraine' In Darien Granted Final Approval

DARIEN, CT — The Darien Board of Selectmen this week granted approval for the second annual “Run For Ukraine” event which is slated for Mother’s Day on May 12.

Town Administrator Kate Buch told the selectmen on Monday that the event has already been OK’d by the Darien Police Department and Parks and Recreation.

“I think this is terrific. This has lots of community support and it’s a way for folks to come out and be supportive of people who are enduring this conflict,” First Selectman Jon Zagrodzky said.

There will be a 5K run and a mile walk which will begin at Pear Tree Point Beach at 8:30 a.m. There will also be a virtual 5K walk/run, according to the event website.

The run is being organized by the nonprofit organization Blue and Yellow Ukraine Inc. All proceeds from the day will go toward helping Ukraine in the war effort, particularly by procuring boots, drones and thermal cameras, the event website says.
