Silverado Skatepark Reopens With New Improvements

LONG BEACH, CA — After weeks of construction, Silverado Skatepark is back and open to the community.

In December, around $160,000 in construction began on renovations at the park. Inspired by the efforts of former City Councilmember Mike Donelon and his nonprofit, the Action Sports Kids Foundation, community members helped raise money for the project.

With help from Tonky Hawk’s The Skatepark Project and the Nouns Digital Art Project, the well-loved park was revitalized.

Over the weekend, the city celebrated the grand re-opening with improved facilities, concrete ramps and steps, new railings and a new mural by local artist Van Eggers.

“I am proud that our youth were involved in this project from start to finish, from brainstorming to designing the park itself and choosing the artwork,” said Mayor Rex Richardson. “Because of their work and input, our youth in West Long Beach have another place to have fun, express themselves creatively, and build community together.”
