Alvaro Gonzalez on training ground attack: “I went to war.”

Speaking in an interview with TF1, Spanish and Marseille central defender Alvaro Gonzalez discussed the storming of the OM training ground for the first time, his long-term ambitions with the club, his desire to vaccinate all Marseille fans and much more.

On fans storming the Marseille training ground and him being hit by a projectile during the chaos:

I have never seen something like that. And I am partly responsible. I was the first to go to the front, to go to war (with the vandals/fans). It is my mentality to always confront. I will never hide that.

On the Marseille fans:

The thing that would bring me great happiness would be to be able to vaccinate all the Marseille fans. I don’t know how, but so that, from next week, they can be in the stadium. I am 31 and I want to finish my career in stadiums that are full.

On his future:

I am proud. I feel very loved by the people here. I hope to stay for as long as possible… I want to stay here for a long time. I think that I am happy and calm. I feel good here. We will soon have news about my future because I want to stay here.

On Jorge Sampaoli:

A new era is beginning with Jorge Samapoli. He has brought a spectacular footballing vision, based on attacking and possession. I think that the fans are going to enjoy themselves. He is someone who thinks a lot, who analyses everything. I have never known that and it is very nice to see. He is a winner. During our first matches, we have been fighting right till the end. It proves that you always need to work your hardest and I hope that we will quickly put in place his playing style.
