T20 World Cup: Team India Reportedly 'Boycotts' ICC's After-Practice Meal

Team India was not too happy with the after-practice menu and some players opted to eat back in their hotel rooms, as per PTI.

It has been learned that the after-practice menu is more or less identical for all sides and Indian players are not being given hot food. BCCI sources say hot food is necessary after an intense training session.

The team took part in an optional training session. All pacers were rested plus Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav and Axar Patel.

The after-practice food included custom sandwiches along with fruits and falafel.

“It’s not like any boycott. Some players did pick up fruits and falafel but everyone wanted to have lunch and hence they had food going back to the hotel,” an unnamed BCCI official told PTI.

“The problem is that the ICC isn’t providing any hot food after lunch. In a bilateral series, the host association is in charge of catering and they always provide hot Indian meals after a training session. But for ICC, the rule is the same for all countries,” the official added.

“You can’t just have a cold sandwich (not even grilled) with avocado, tomato and cucumber after two hours of training. That is plain and simple inadequate nourishment,” he went on to say.

“Yes, the Indian team has told us about their issues with the food after practice. We are trying to figure out and the issue will be sorted,” an ICC source told PTI.
