The incident occurred on Monday afternoon at Kaveripura near Nanda Gokula Government School. Police said a 26-year-old man, known to the victim’s family, was arrested in connection with the case on Tuesday around 7 pm.

Raped her, then hit her head with a blunt weapon
The victim was the child of a single mother, a garment factory worker, who had been in a relationship with the accused for over a year. She lived alone with her daughter.
The accused reportedly raped and murdered the child when her mother wasn’t home. Police added that the accused allegedly killed the girl by hitting her on the head with a blunt weapon as injury marks were found on her head. The body was shifted to Victoria Hospital’s mortuary for postmortem.

He has been arrested, and a case filed against him under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

Earlier on Monday, in another case, a man was sentenced to three life terms, for the remainder of his life, for repeatedly raping and impregnating his minor daughter.
Manjeri Fast Track Special Court judge Rajesh K convicted the man for offences of rape, aggravated sexual assault and penetrative sexual assault, as well as intimidation of the victim under the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, special public prosecutor (SPP) A Somasundaran said.

The court directed that he shall remain imprisoned for the rest of his natural life, the SPP said.
