Official | Laurent Blanc joins Lyon as manager on a two-year deal

In a statement from the Ligue 1 club, Olympique Lyonnais have named Laurent Blanc as manager on a two year deal which lasts until 2024. This comes after they sacked Peter Bosz following the club’s worst run in 30 years in Ligue 1. On the dismissal the club said the following:

“In view of the disappointing results obtained at the beginning of the season, which fall far short of the expectations and objectives set, Olympique Lyonnais informs that Peter Bosz, as coach of the professional team, as well as Rob Maas, assistant coach, and Terry Peters, physical trainer, have been dismissed with preventive effect.”

Les Gones have decided to hire former France manager Laurent Blanc, who has been out of a job for some time.

“A reflection was conducted internally to find the necessary levers to allow the team to start again on solid bases in order to be in adequacy with the ambitions of the OL this season. At the end of this process, and after having exchanged views with John Textor on Saturday night, Olympique Lyonnais has decided to appoint Laurent Blanc as head coach of the professional team for two seasons, until 30 June 2024.”

Laurent Blanc was appointed coach of the French national team in 2010 and stayed at the helm for two years, qualifying them for Euro 2012. Second in group D alongside England, Ukraine and Sweden, France were eliminated in the quarter-finals by Spain, the future winners of the competition.
