According to Le Parisien, 14 arrests were made at the Parc des Princes last night in a game which was considered high risk, but no major clashes between supporters took place. According to a police source, the majority of arrests were linked to the use of pyrotechnics in the stadium.
One person was arrested for pickpocketing Israeli supporters and another for insult, it added. The match was considered high-risk and the Paris police prefecture had mobilised 800 members of the police force. There were no major clashes.
In a tweet, the club have told fans not to wear the shirt of the opposing team (aka Maccabi Haifa), adding that fans shouldn’t wear scarves or any other accessories of the Israeli club. The third measure states that it is “flags of countries not represented by PSG” are banned from the Parc des Princes for Tuesday’s Champions League tie.
Whilst there is no explicit mention of the Palestine flag, the reminder comes amidst a perceived security threat that arises from the PSG ultras’ ideological stance in support of Palestine. There were fears that Palestine flags could be brandished at the Auteuil stand, where the ultras are situated, in a match that has been classified as high-risk.
