AS Monaco return to Ligue 1 action with a trip to Auxerre. Despite returning to training, Youssouf Fofana and Axel Disasi are both expected to start on the bench on Wednesday afternoon.
Whilst both Fofana and Disasi, both of whom were part of the France squad that reached the final of the World Cup in Qatar, are back in training, they are not expected to feature against relegation-threatened Auxerre. Both played a bit-part role in the run and came off the bench during the final, which took place only 10 days ago.
However, Les Monégasques’ other World Cup stars, such as Breel Embolo and Krépin Diatta are set to start. Despite a strong showing with Senegal in Qatar, Ismaïl Jakobs will likely find it difficult to displace Caio Henrique at left-back. Benoît Badiashile, heavily linked with a move to Chelsea, will likely partner Guillermo Maripán in central defence.
Eliot Matazo has seemingly moved in front of Jean Lucas in the pecking order, and he is set to replace Fofana, and Embolo, who scored twice in Qatar, will partner Wissam Ben Yedder.
Monaco XI v Auxerre:
Alexander Nübel – Caio Henrique, Benoît Badiashile, Guillermo Maripan, Vanderson – Aleksandr Golovin, Eliot Matazo, Mohamed Camara, Krépin Diatta – Wissam Ben Yedder, Breel Embolo.
