Steve Austin On Why His First WWE Title Win “Sucked”

WWE has also released the following video, featuring Hall of Famer “Stone Cold” Steve Austin recalling his first WWE Title win at WrestleMania 14, and Austin feels the win “sucked.”

Austin notes this month marks the 20th anniversary of his first WWE Title win, as he defeated Shawn Michaels with Mike Tyson as the match’s special guest enforcer.

Austin says people in WWE were not sure the match was even going to happen, as HBK was not in a good place at the time, and he was banged up mentally and physically. But Vince then approached Austin about working with Mike Tyson, and Austin said his role was in the WWE ring, and not going up against Tyson in a boxing match or any other kind of a one-on-one fight.

On why he felt the title win “sucked”, Austin says he did not like the fast-count from Mike Tyson, and Austin wanted to win the title with a legitimate count cadence, but Vince told him to put the match behind him and start fresh the next night.

On the 20th anniversary of his first WWE Championship victory at WrestleMania XIV, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin talks about Shawn Michaels, Mike Tyson and the start of his legendary run.
