MARSHALL, Minn. – Southwest Minnesota State University took nine bout victories to score a season-high 42 points in its 42-3 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference victory over Northern State on Friday. With the win SMSU improves to 11-5 overall, 5-2 in the NSIC.

SMSU won nine straight to begin the match and was only tripped up in the 197-pound bout as Micah Larson fell 4-1 to NSU’s Joe Gomez.
Justin Reinsma (133), Beau Buysse (149), Kyle Begin (165), Jacob Begin (174) all scored bonus point victories to go along with SMSU’s pair of forfeits at 125 and 184. Kyle Begin recorded his team-leading 12th pin of the season when he defeated Blake Lundgren by fall at 4:55. Jacob Begin followed suit in his 174-pound bout but quicker as Begin pinned his opponent at 2:27.
Codie Lane ended his eight-bout losing skid with a 6-4 win over Sean Havlovic to improve to 10-15 on the season.
Cole Wilson ended the night on a high note for the Mustangs as the 285-pounder took home a 10-2 major decision to capture his 20th victory of the season. Wilson joins Reinsma and Kyle
Begin in the 20-win club this season. Jacob Begin (18-6) and Andrew Rodas (15-8) are within striking distance with one bout to go plus regional action.
SMSU will break for 15 days, but will close-out the regular season at home on Feb. 22, versus U-Mary.
