Gordon Solie, an icon figure of this industry who announced more pro wrestling matches on television than any man who ever lived, passed away from brain cancer officially on 7/28 at the age of 71. Solie was found that morning by his family, and it is being listed as the date of his death. It is believed his death may have taken place as early as late Wednesday night, as nobody heard from him on Thursday, and the house was exactly the same on Friday morning as it was on Wednesday night, when his daughter was over for dinner.

MONDAY NEWS UPDATE

Tonight’s Labor Day edition of Raw has Big Show vs. Braun Strowman in a steel cage match, plus Jeff Hardy getting a shot at the Intercontinental Championship. This week’s ratings will likely be delayed due to the holiday.
John Cena vs. Jason Jordan will kick off Raw tonight.
Ronda Rousey, Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir did a segment during the Mae Young Classic where they confronted Charlotte, Becky Lynch and Bayley. Rousey told them anytime, anywhere; they didn’t give a response and made their exit instead.
A rematch between Alexa Bliss and Sasha Banks for the Raw Women’s title has been set for No Mercy.
Rumor in Hollywood right now is that John Cena may be up for the role of Captain Marvel in Warner Bros.’ upcoming movie adaptation of the comic book superhero.
Reby and Beth Hardy voiced their displeasure with WWE’s decision to broadcast Raw live on Christmas this year.
SPORTbible posted a clip from a previous interview with The Hardys where they discussed having singles careers without feuding together.
Nikki Bella spoke to TV Insider to promote the new season of Total Bellas.
Mickie James released a new country music single.

Sexy Star has released her own version of events regarding what went down at TripleMania. Fightful has a translated version. Her story is that she didn’t know she was injured until after the match, and did not think the injury was that serious because no one was tending to her. She has never been given any medical news regarding her condition. She also said media reports were inconsistent, saying that some reported it was her elbow, others said it was her whole arm.
Yoshihiro Takayama has given an update on his status. He is mobile from the shoulders up, but remains paralyzed elsewhere and the prospects for recovery are not good. A fundraiser called TAKAYAMANIA has started to collect funds for him and his family. Dragon Gate, All Japan, DDT and Pro Wrestling NOAH have also started to collect funds.
PROGRESS Wrestling announced that Zack Sabre Jr. will be wrestling at their show at Alexandra Palace on Sunday with the storyline of him issuing an open challenge.
Dave Meltzer recorded an upcoming episode of Highspots’ “Officer and a Gentleman” show with Chuck Taylor, Dan Barry, and Ricochet while in Los Angeles for PWG’s Battle of Los Angeles.

MMA Fighting ran a story on the angle with Ronda Rousey and the Four Horsewomen vs. Four Horsewomen from the Mae Young Classic.
Ray Borg said that he’ll give Demetrious Johnson an automatic rematch when he beats him in their title match.
Ben Askren is set to face Shinya Aoki for the ONE Welterweight title on their 11/24 show in Singapore. It is said that Askren will retire after the match to become an executive at ONE Championship.
Jack Hermansson is set to face Thiago Santos at UFC Sao Paulo on 10/28.
Amanda Nunes is not afraid of the challenge Valentina Shevchenko will give her at UFC 215.
Mike Perry isn’t mincing words about his future opponent Thiago Alves.
