mobanmarketMOORHEAD, Minn. — A second straight All-American honor for junior Blake Bosch highlighted the 2015-16 season for the Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestling team. The Dragons finished with an 8-7 dual record, the second straight season MSUM has finished with a winning record in duals.
Bosch finished fourth in the nation at 133 pounds to earn the All-American honors. He was 34-7 on the season to lead the Dragons in victories for a second straight season.
The dual season was highlighted by a second-place finish at the Virginia Duals in January. MSUM lost one dual by tiebreaker, to Southwest Minnesota State, and lost to neighboring rival Concordia in November.
The Dragons started as many as five freshmen in their lineup. MSUM will lose two individuals from their regular lineup — junior Garret Hoffner, who will graduate this spring, and senior Mike Urban.
MSUM’s individual tournament season was highlighted by three titles at the Dragon Open on Dec. 4. Urban (197), Bosch (133) and freshman Adam Blees (165) each won their divisions at the Dragon Open.
Bosch’s 34-7 mark led the Dragon lineup. Hoffner was 17-12 at 157 pounds while Blees was 15-10. Urban finished 12-10 at 197 while junior Isaac Novacek was 18-18 at 157.
All-American Honors
Bosch finished fourth at 133 pounds at the Division II National Championships. Bosch won his first two matches at the national championships before losing a tough 7-5 decision to Nick Crume of Indianapolis in the semifinals. Bosch came back to pin Naquan Hardy in 1:41 to the consolation bracket before falling to Daniel DeShazer of Nebraska-Kearney in the third-place match.
All-NSIC Honors
Bosch picked up All-NSIC first team honors after going 8-0 in conference matches this season at 133 pounds. Bosch picked up the all-conference for the second straight year.
All-Academic Honors
MSUM was named an All-Academic Team by the Division II Wrestling Coaches Association. MSUM finished with the third-highest GPA (3.320) in Division II.
Three Dragon individuals were named to the D2WCA All-Academic Team. Junior Garret Hoffner was named to the All-Academic First Team after posting a GPA of 3.91. Junior Blake Bosch and sophomore Caleb Radley each earned second-team honors.In addition, MSUM junior Shane Novak was an honorable mention selection.
