Shearer, Otomo Second at 48th annual Bison Open, Five NDSU Wrestlers Place in Top Three

FARGO, N.D. – No. 11-ranked Arizona State took 7 of 10 weight classes, while North Dakota State placed five in the top three including a pair of runner-up finishes for 174 Jesse Shearer and 184 Michael Otomo at the 48th annual Bison Open held Saturday, Nov. 10, before 584 spectators in the Scheels Center.

Shearer, a redshirt freshman who wrestled at West Fargo, was pinned by the nation’s top-ranked 174-pounder Zahid Valencia at 1-minute, 2-seconds in the first period. Shearer won three of four matches and improved 7-1 overall.

Otomo, a redshirt sophomore transfer from Wisconsin-La Crosse, faced another ranked Sun Devil, No. 18 Kordell Norfleet and lost a 12-3 major decision. Otomo went 2-1 at the Bison Open and stands 5-1 overall

NDSU heavyweight Dan Stibral, unattached 133 McGwire Midkiff and unattached 184 TJ Pottinger all finished in third place.

2018 Bison Open Results

North Dakota State (2-0, 0-0 #Big12WR) is scheduled to face Fresno State at 9 p.m. CT Friday, Nov. 16, and compete at the Cal State-Bakersfield Road Runner Open on Sunday, Nov. 18.
