It was previously reported that WWE moved The Backlash PPV Event from the originally scheduled date and place of June 16th in San Diego, California to June 23rd in Tacoma, Washington. The move was reportedly done to prevent running big shows two weekends in a row as WWE’s next event in Saudi Arabia is scheduled to take place on June 7th, despite it not being announced yet.
This past March, WWE COO Triple H officially announced that NXT’s next TakeOver Event will be taking place on Saturday, June 8th from The San Jose State University Event Center in San Jose, California, which would be just one day after The Saudi Arabia Event. On a recent edition of The Wrestling Observer Radio Program, Dave Meltzer said that he has been told that TakeOver will most likely be moved as well. WWE will be holding NXT TV Tapings tomorrow and Thursday which would run through TakeOver, so a final decision will most probably be made by then.
Despite the rumored Saudi Arabia Event being less than six weeks away, WWE has been keeping very quiet about it. On last Thursday’s earnings call with WWE Chairman & CEO Vince McMahon and WWE Co-Presidents George Barrios & Michelle Wilson, The Saudi Arabia Event or even just Saudi Arabia itself was never mentioned by name. When asked about WWE’s second quarter and if The Saudi Arabia Event would be part of it, Barrios gave a very brief response.
Barrios said, “We’re going to stay away from guiding on specific elements of the quarter.” “So obviously, we’ll talk about it once we report.”
When asked again later in the call about when The Saudi Arabia Events will be taking place, Barrios replied, “We’re not going to talk about that again, so our guide obviously reflects the best assumption, best knowledge we have right now.”
WWE has put out tickets on sale for RAW & SmackDown Live Events in California on Sunday, June 9th in Stockton & Fresno, just two days after the expected Saudi Arabia Show. The Undertaker, who is expected to face Elias at The Saudi Arabia Event, is also still advertised for The Niagara Falls Comic Con that Sunday. More information will be provided on WWE’s Saudi Arabia Event once it is made available.
