#1 St. Cloud State charts big win at Minot State, 39-3

The #1 ranked St. Cloud State wrestling team (11-0, 3-0 NSIC) continued its success in 2019-20 with a solid 39-3 victory at #23 Minot State University in Minot, N.D. on Friday, Jan. 24.

The Huskies charted nine consecutive wins in the match after starting the night with a loss at 125-pounds. The victory was SCSU’s 59th consecutive victory, which is an NCAA DII record for most consecutive dual match wins.

At 133-pounds, Garrett Vos opened the wins with a 12-3 major decision to tie the dual at 3-3. Garrett Aldrich then gained six points with a forfeit win at 141 before James Pleski posted a 1-0 win over Shadi Mitwalli of Minot at 149.

At 157, Jake Barzowski posted a 16-3 major decision win and Devin FitzPatrick earned an 8-3 win at 165. In action at 174-pounds, Kolton Eischens scored the Huskies’ first fall of the night at 1:38 and then Tyree Overton won by a fall (2:57) at 184 pounds. At 197 pounds, Noah Ryan added bonus points with a 10-0 major decision before the evening was capped by Ezayah Oropeza’s 6-3 win at 285-pounds.

SCSU will travel to the University of Mary in Bismarck for a 7 p.m. dual match on Jan. 25.
