Teen Turns 'Burgers For A Year' Award Into Huge Donation

TINLEY PARK, IL — It was halftime at a Thunderbolts basketball game and Adam Jumah took to center court. Towering at six-foot-four and 315 pounds, the senior offensive lineman for Andrew High School hucked the basketball about 40 feet and sunk it on his first try.

The half-court shot was part of a promotion from the burger chain Meatheads, who awarded Jumah a year’s worth of weekly burgers, but the teen saw it as an opportunity to give back.

Jumah, 17, decided to donate his winnings to Together We Cope, Tinley Park organization working to prevent homelessness. They provide financial assistance to families who are at risk of losing their homes in the form of food, clothes, utility bills, past due rent and more.

The Meatheads certificates for free burgers are worth about $400. Together We Cope be raffling them off at their Carnivale fundraising event in February.

Andrew alumnus James Curtis, who now works at Meatheads in marketing, presented the award to Jumah, according to the Tinley Junction.

The gym erupted when Jumah made the shot. “That place got so loud… it was nuts,” Curtis said, according to the Daily Southtown.

On his Twitter account, Jumah expressed thanks after he received offers from Trinity International University, William Penn, Southwest Minnesota State and several more.
