Colorado Marijuana Sales Have Cracked $6 Billion Since 2014

DENVER, CO – More than $6 billion in marijuana sales have been reported in Colorado since adult-use pot became legal in 2014, a new report released Tuesday from the Colorado Department of Revenue said.

The report looked at both medical and recreational marijuana sales.

The report said the state collected tax, license and fee revenue of more than $266.5 million in calendar year 2018. That was actually a drop from 2017, when taxes and fee revenue topped $247 million.

Since Jan. 2014, when adult-use marijuana was first legalized, the state has collected $927 million in tax and fee revenues, the report said.

Last year, marijuana sales once again topped $1.55 billion, the report said. In 2017, total marijuana sales were $1.5 billion.

Colorado’s Department of Revenue has issued licenses for 550 recreational marijuana stores in the state and 724 recreational cultivation centers.
