Ursula von der Leyen plans to present her team of European commissioners early next week, the Commission president-elect told German MEPs on Tuesday, according to two people in the room.

“It sounded very much like next Monday, Tuesday at the latest,” said one participant in the meeting with parliamentarians from Germany’s CDU/CSU center-right bloc.

An official from von der Leyen’s team said such a timeline would be possible, providing that “Italy will have delivered by then” by nominating its candidate for the Commission.

Von der Leyen said in the meeting with MEPs that she expects the nomination from Italy — which is in the midst of a change of government — to come Thursday.

Two officials also said that von der Leyen told MEPs she plans nominate two Commission vice presidents for the areas of climate and digitalization. According to one official, she is likely to announce further vice presidential positions as part of her team.
