Despite a patriarchal social structure, India has the highest proportion of female commercial pilots in the world at 12 per cent, reported news agency Reuters. Globally, less than 5 per cent of pilots are women, according to the International Society of Women Airline Pilots.

However, even sky is not the limit for Indian women pilots as the number is double in the country as compared to western countries including the United States and Australia. Airlines particularly are on the lookout for new pilots since the domestic capacity in India has grown by 22 per cent in the first half of the year.
