Devotees Disappointed At Contaminated State Of Gomti River, Refuse To Take Holy Dip On Makar Sankranti

Makar Sankranti is a Hindu festival which marks the beginning of a new season of harvest. It marks the transit of Surya devta into the zodiac of Makar or Capricorn. Winter solstice comes to an end giving way for longer and warmer days.

It is an important event in the Hindu calendar and is celebrated in different ways all around the country. Halwa, kheer and light diet like Khichdi are consumed on this day. Young and adults fly kites to celebrate this day.
