Drivers unimpressed with new Monaco kerbs

Romain Grosjean and Sergio Perez took a double look at new kerbs added around Monaco’s Swimming Pool complex, and fear they could spell danger for drivers this weekend.

Monaco added a few changes to the circuit, mainly in the form of TecPro barriers lining Ste Devote, Casino, the chicane, Tabac and the Swimming Pool complex.

But a new kerb running parallel to the track and a kerb located on the inside of the left-hander at the Pool complex has drawn the attention of drivers.

“I don’t really know why [they’ve done it] – maybe for the Porsche,” said GPDA director Romain Grosjean.

“But the bigger yellow thing – don’t touch it when you are in an F1 car! It looks like a taking off ramp.

“If you clip your front wing, it could take it [off] because you’ve made a small mistake and it will fly you straight into the wall.

“Before there was a big one [kerb] there, and taking it you were losing time anyway, so I was a bit surprised to see that.”

Force India’s Sergio Perez was equally apprehensive of the change and the consequences in the event of hitting the new kerb.

“It is far too big,” he said.

“I don’t think there is a need to have such a big kerb. I think the one we had before was big enough and if you hit it it will send you to the wall.

“So I think this one will probably send you to the grandstand.”
