Bye Bye Birdie Live! is the name of the December 2017 production, with Lopez taking on the role of Rose “Rosie” Alvarez, reports People. The character is both the girlfriend and secretary of music agent and songwriter Albert Peterson, who has yet to be cast. Back in October, the Grammy Award-winning singer’s participation was disclosed by NBC Chairman Robert Greenblatt. In a discussion at the Paley Center for Media in L.A, he revealed: “To have a superstar like Jennifer Lopez starring in this classic show, which every high school in America has done, will ensure that our holiday musicals continue to be must-see events for the whole family,”. With moves like the below, we know the Billboard Icon Award winner will put on amazing show.
Lopez also proposed to Greenblatt that she take on Chita Rivera’s original role of Rosie in the production, following in the steps of the icon. Dick Van Dyke played opposite her on Broadway, so anyone who plays his role will have legendary shoes to fill. As both actors are still alive, here’s to hoping they both make a cameo!
