Modefabriek #24: Inspirational quality

The only real fashion trade fair in The Netherlands shows off its innovative nature once again For almost 12 years the modefabriek has been able to truly call itself the only real fashion fair in The Netherlands. From the very beginning in 1996, continuous innovation and high quality has predominated the aims of the organisers. While having grown to become a not-to-be-missed two-day fashion event held at the Amsterdam RAI, the modefabriek remains loyal to its original essence and visitors and exhibitors alike can again count on being part of an inspiring fair experience where there is also plenty of room for doing serious business.

The 24th edition of the modefabriek, to be held on Sunday, 20 and Monday 21 January 2008, will present even more growth amongst the selection of higher-segment brands, further strengthening the fair’s international élan. The impressive fair programme includes the launch of a unique web exhibition of fashion accessories from the Rijksmuseum. There will be a follow-up to the New Design area, which was launched during the last season, again forming an awe-inspiring showcase of up-and-coming fashion talent from The Netherlands and abroad. Finally, the exciting catwalk shows and the already legendary superstore are of course essential in their roles as the beating heart of the modefabriek.

BEST OF BRANDS
The progressive nature of the modefabriek can be clearly seen in the steep growth regarding the selection of brands from the higher market segment. This constant upgrading of the brand portfolio continues to strengthen the international appeal of the modefabriek. During the coming edition we will again see new, high-quality names shining brightly on the list of exhibitors at the modefabriek, including Andersen & Lauth, Bensimon Collection, Black Lily Accessories, Gio-Goi, House of Dagmar, IKKS, La Fée Maraboutée, Love Therapy by Elio Fiorucci, Madé, Marimekko, Munthe plus Simonsen, Nümph, Pinko, Atelier PRC (Percy Irausquin), Sessùn and Tricot Chic.

PRECIOUS ACCESSORIES Every season the modefabriek organisers strive to put on the most inspiring fair experience possible. This time a true premier is the launch of the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam’s web exhibition by way of an exclusive installation at the fair. This presentation, with accessories as its theme, is the first in a series of web specials where distinctive collections of the Rijksmuseum that cannot be shown during the museum’s renovations or cannot be exhibited due to the fragile nature of the materials, are presented online. The web exhibition has been designed by Cristina Garcia Martin and Joost van Grinsven (whose portfolios include work for ELLE, Oilily and the VPRO), who took their inspiration for the styling of the accessories from fashion photography. By allowing the objects to be illuminated against a shiny, black background, not only is the luxurious status and exclusivity of the accessories presented properly, but the often times hidden sides and internal fabric of the objects also become visible.

10 x TOMORROW’S TALENT Last July the modefabriek launched the New Design area, where ten up-and-coming internationally oriented fashion talents presented their collections to the press and retailers. After this successful introduction, the modefabriek will at the coming edition again offer a platform to the crème de la crème of aspiring designers from The Netherlands and abroad. This is the place to be to get to know tomorrow’s fashion darlings. And to make it even more exciting, the names of the participating designers will be disclosed at a much later date – so make sure you keep a close eye on the modefabriek website!

SUPERSTORE 04 The beating heart of the modefabriek is shaped by the superstore 04, a trend forum in the form of a concept store. The superstore has been created by the stijlinstituut Amsterdam, the modefabriek and Uniquole tentoonstellingen / pr Nederlands ontwerp, who, for the fourth time, have built the store around a unique and current theme. This time everything revolves around everything good and inspirational offered by nature. The superstore is being decorated like a large labratory, where inspiring and sustainable solutions of the design industry lead to a smarter and friendlier future. We see brand new creations and inventions such as ‘100% sap’ the interactive installation of Daniera ter Haar and Christoph Brach where pure and natural juice is transformed into magical drawings and Richard Hutton’s creation of small-scale forests with leaf magnets. Products become organisms, your clothing grows while you wear it and frozen fruit and vegetable capsules are being made ready for the next millennium. Come and see how green is brewing and innovative designs are flourishing for a continuously blooming future. On Monday, 21 January at 11:00, co-initiator, Annemarie Commandeur, will also be holding a trend presentation in the superstore for press and stylists.

PLEASE BE SEATED… Take a seat and let yourself be inspired by the surprising fashion shows put on by the best labels and designers.
