I want to play with David Silva, says Roma starlet Cengiz Under

The Turkey international, who has attracted admiring glances from across Europe, is a big fan of a World Cup winner on the books at Manchester City

Roma’s Cengiz Under admits that he has great admiration for Manchester City midfielder David Silva and hopes that they can play together some day before the Spanish maestro hangs up his boots.

Big things are expected of 21-year-old Under, who was signed during Monchi’s tenure in Rome, with the young winger having already scored 10 Serie A goals in 43 appearances for the Giallorossi despite his tender years.

A natural left-footer, Under is no stranger to cutting in from his position on the right wing and shooting, leading to fans and pundits referring to him as the ‘Turkish Dybala’ due to his similar style to Juventus’ tricky Argentine.

Under, however, is a fan of an entirely different style of player, as he revealed in an exclusive interview with Goal and DAZN.

“I have always said that it’s very nice to watch other great players, but one should always take himself as an example,” the Turkey international began.

“You need to be self-critical and you need to improve yourself – I always watch my own videos after games.

“The one player I really like watching and admire is David Silva. I used to watch his videos often and I like his playing style very much.

“I love him, so I hope we can play together some day!”

And while Monchi’s time as a sporting director in the Italian capital ended poorly, Under’s is a different story, with the attacker admitting to adapting his style to suit Serie A and improving all facets of his game in the process.

“After comparing videos of my Basaksehir days and my Roma days, I have realised that I play a very different kind of football here,” he added.

“I now know better what I can do defensively and offensively. I think I have improved myself quite a lot in Italy.

“I will never forget the help [former coach Eusebio] Di Francesco gave me. I have improved myself thanks to him. He always trusted me and made me feel confident, thus, I played much better.

“I was sad, very sad when he was let go.”

See Under open up on his nickname, the despair of not playing through injury, signing with Bucaspor at just ten years old and much more in the full video interview above.
